Did South African Rapper HHP Kick His Own Bucket?

It’s a sad day for the music industry especially in South Africa after rapper, Jabulani Tsambo aka HHP dies at the 38 years in what appears to be ‘unclear circumstances.’

His wife, Lerato Sengadi broke the news in a statement that read, “It is with heavy hearts that we confirm that Jabulani Tsambo, known to his fans as Hip Hop Pantsula passed away today, Wednesday, 24 October 2018.”

The reason behind his death is still unknown but there are speculations that the award winning South African rapper may have committed suicide seeing as HHP had openly struggled with depression in the past.

Rumors have emerged that the late Jabulani Tsambo spoke about his feelings of hopelessness and losing control of his life days before his demise. According to the Sowetan, a South African daily newspaper, the rapper said, “I’m depressed. I’m going out of control. I’m losing it.”

The late rapper also had a good relationship with Kenyan artistes and heavy influence on the Kenyan music industry. According to popular Kenyan rapper, King Kaka, the two had worked on a track together with vocalist Wangechi.

King Kaka mourned the death of HHP saying that the South African rapper was the first artiste to agree to feature on his Ligi Soo remix track.

“Back when I had a dream of doing Ligi Soo Africa Remix , HHP was the 1st artiste that said yes. This is the unreleased verse. #RIPHHP” said Kaka Sungura in a tweet.

The late HHP had also collaborated with Kenya’s Fena Gitu, on a song ‘My City‘ that talks about the beauty of their cities, Nairobi and  Johannesburg.

Fan around the world have mourned the death of the talented musician with many saying that his death was one of ‘gone too soon.’

Among those who have sent out their condolences include South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress which in a statement said, “The ANC joins millions of South Africans in paying tribute to this music icon who became a beacon of hope and inspired many artists, and individuals in our country.”

Thabiso ‘Thasman’ Tsotetsi recounted the last moments with his friend saying that he was shocked to see his friend’s body lying on the floor.

Thabiso neither agreed nor denied the rumors but said that he could not confirm whether the South African star committed suicide.

The family spokesman also said that he could not comment on the details around HHP’s death until an autopsy was conducted.

“We cannot speak about the cause of death. We will await the results of the post-mortem and then comment on this.”  said the family spokesperson.

Despite battling depression, HHP’s friend and colleague, Khuli Chana said that those close to the rapper had hope that he would be able to overcome.

“It breaks my heart because it really felt like he was picking up the pieces and it breaks my heart that he was never able to overcome that dark space he was in,” Khuli said.

The musician had just recently dropped his EP, #FGTBB (Feels Good To Be Back) after a rather long music hiatus.

Tsambo’s family have now requested for privacy during this time of mourning and said that they will communicate when all arrangements to bury their loved one have been made.
