Big Celebration Outside Court For Obado Release

Songs erupted outside Milimani law courts on Wednesday after Migori governor Okoth Obado was released on Sh5 million cash bail.

Obado’s supporters danced and shook hands with smiles written all over their faces.

They carried shirts branded with Obado’s picture as they waited for their leader to come out of the court.

As they celebrate their governor’s release, the family of the Rongo University student Sharon Otieno still remains in pain over the ruling.

The High Court judge Jessie Lessit ordered Obado to deposit his travel documents including his passport before he is released.

Obado is facing two murder charges alongside his personal assistant Michael Oyamo and county Clerk Caspal Obiero.

The second charge is that of killing Sharon’s unborn child.

High Court judge Jessie Lesiit delivered the ruling on bail applications by Obado and his co-accused, Michael Oyamo and County Clerk Caspal Obiero at 9:50 am.

The Migori governor was directed to pay Ksh5 million bail with two sureties of the same amount after spending almost a month at Industrial Area Remand Prison.

During the ruling, the judge issued other conditions to be complied with by Obado failure to which the bail would be cancelled.

Among the terms set by Justice Lessit on Obado’s bail were:

1. Obado would surrender his travel documents in court, that is his Kenyan, East Africa and diplomatic passports.

2. The Migori county boss was ordered to stay more than 20 kilometres from Homabay county where Sharon hails from.

3. Justice Lessit also ordered Obado not to intimidate parents or siblings of the deceased Sharon Otieno.

4. Governor Obado was restricted from contacting any of the witnesses in the case.

5. He was also directed to refrain from mentioning the case or Sharon in meetings and political rallies.

6. He shall not cause an adjournment during the period of the case.

7. He shall report to the Deputy Registrar of the Milimani High Court once a month.
