Motorists were today treated to a huge traffic snarl up on Thika Road after the heavy downpour on Monday night and Tuesday morning. Drivers had to wait for long hours to arrive at their destination as the October rainy season set in after the Kenya Meteorological Department issued a heavy rainfall advisory.
The meteorological department issued the advisory on Tuesday morning saying that heavy rainfall is expected to intensify especially in the country’s Coastal region.
The Met department has advised residents to be on the lookout for flash floods as the heavy rains and strong winds offshore may result in storm surge along the Coast. Fishermen and those in the marine industry have also been asked to stay on high alert.
Even as the rains continue to pour, the correlation between it and traffic in the city is still a mystery.
Why does rain mean automatic traffic in Nairobi? 🙄

10:20 @KeNHAKenya I've never understood why traffic builds up when it pours. Basically, friction reduces and as such less resistance when the tyres hit the road. Hapa Thika Rd magari inatembea kama binadamu via @SamngashK

10:18 Oh yes, there was a drizzle & the gridlock on Thika Road inbound can't be described, can only be experienced — yes, the drizzle… because any little rain water fills the empty spaces in the heads of KE road users & traffic police officers. via @mqhlay
