KPLC ‘Magicians’ Charged In Court

Only yesterday, Prosecutor Alexander Muteti today told the court that the ERC report on the alleged procurement of faulty transformers by Kenya Power boss Ben Chumo and other senior officers could not be found causing trial against the duo not to proceed as scheduled.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions acted swiftly and ordered immediate investigations for the ‘missing files.’

Barely a day after DPP Noordin Haji’s directive, three suspects have since been linked to the disappearance of the crucial file in the Kenya Power corruption case. The three; Former Head of Supply Chain, John Mucere Ombui, Former Kenya Power Secretary, Beatrice Meso and Ruth Otile were arraigned in court and charged with conspiracy to defeat justice.

They were arraigned before in court before Nairobi Senior Principal Magistrate, Kennedy Cheruiyot who released them on a personal bond of one million Kenya shillings and three hundred thousand cash bail.

Although the prosecution wanted the suspects detained for seven days, the court ruled that there were no compelling reasons to warrant the detention of the accused for seven days as they are not likely to interfere with ongoing investigation.

They were further directed to appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations on October 24 and October 25 to accompany the investigating officers to the Kenya Power offices.
