Bomet MP’s Cry For Attention; Walk out on President Kenyatta

Shortly after President Kenyatta addressed members of the public in Bomet County, four Bomet MPs walked out in protest against after they were denied an opportunity to speak during President Uhuru’s visit. The four legislators, Bomet Central MP Ronald Tonui, Bomet East MP Beatrice Kones, Konoin MP Brighton Yegon and Bomet Senator Christopher Langat accused Governor Joyce Laboso of ignoring and failing to recognize them.

“We were not even invited to give our speeches or even wave to the crowd,’ said Chepalungu MP Gideon Koskei.

“We had several issues we wanted the raise before the President but the Governor deemed it fit to ignore us, ” he added.

The President and his Deputy, William Ruto were in the region to officially open the Bomet University. It also emerged that the MPs were protesting alleged nepotism in the awarding of the contract for construction of the university to people from the same community.

After the event, President Kenyatta proceeded to address the Lake Region Economic Block conference that brings together 14 counties mostly from Western and Nyanza regions, while the four lawmakers went ahead to address the media in Bomet County.
