Places that you should visit in Kakamega this Mashujaa Day

Kakamega County is set to host the Mashujaa Day Celebrations on Saturday 20 October and the Government officials and other visitors will flock Kakamega town for the event.

Prior and after the event there are several places you should visit before you leave the town.

Crying stone

The crying stone is based in Ilesi alongside Kisumu-Kakamega Highway. This place is connected to several myths and legends. The crying stone is commonly known as Ikhongo Murwi and has two stones: a behemoth and another smaller which is balancing on the top. Masinde Muliro Gardens

This famous garden is incredibly beautiful and boasts a variety of tropical trees such as the bamboo tree. The climate of this part of the country became a womb for tropical vegetation. It is also known for its fresh air and a good relaxation environment.

1930was the year when it was established by gold prospecting colonialists. The current name of the park was given to it the same year Kenya gained its independence. Its named after Elijah Masinde Muliro, one of the countries freedom fighters from Western Kenya. It became a national museum site in 2002.

Kakamega Forest which is also famous as “The Canopy of Natural Beauty”. It is situated just in few miles away from Muliro Gardens.

This rainforest has stood the test of time and became a home for various wild animals, among which are colobus monkeys, bush pigs, giant forest hedgehogs, pottos, De Brazzar’s monkeys etc. Among the inhabitants of Kakamega Forest are also various birds such as Blue Headed Bee Eater, Turner’s Eremomela, Black-Billed Turaco, and Grey Parrots.

Savona Islands

Savona has been named an Island since it lies on a piece of dry land which appeared as a result of a river break into two tributaries that rejoins at the other end.
