Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe has accused Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for secretly staging a spy at her Gigiri police cell at the time of her arrest. She accused the lead investigator Chief Inspector Maxwell Otieno of planting a spy inside her cell at Gigiri police station. In an affidavit sworn by Ms. Maribe, she narrated how Kennedy Kenneth Omondi was allegedly brought into her cell.

“I suspect K.K. Omondi was planted by C.Insp.M. Otieno…to investigate and extract information. He probably thought I had something I was holding back whilst in fact I had disclosed everything,” said Maribe.

Interacted freely

According to Maribe, Omondi was the sole male occupant allowed to interact freely with female detainees despite a strict gender rule enforced in Kenyan police cells.

According to the sources, Maribe alleged how Mr. Omondi freely operated his phone inside the cell at the same time asking her about Monica Kimani’s murder.

“Immediately upon being checked in, the said K.K. Omondi told me he was arrested on drug trafficking accusations on the night of September 29,2018 (2am), that he lives in Kilimani, that he frequents a place called Rubi -Cut and that he knows my house in Royal Park,“ said Maribe.

I was advised by other detainees and security personnel to be careful with him in view of his interest in my situation,” said Maribe.

Bail application

Through her lawyer Katwa Kigen, Maribe has asked the court to set her free since she had no motive to kill the deceased neither did she participate directly or indirectly.

Her plea will be determined on October 24, together with her fiance Joseph Irungu. The two have been charged with the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani.
