Speaking on Wednesday, Justice Wakiaga asked the prosecution to check on their team and weed out those leaking information to the press.

He argued that he found out about some of the details of the case through the press and such a trend was not welcomed in his courtroom.

The prosecution, on its part, stated that it had written to various media houses complaining about some of the details in stories they had published.

Justice Wakiaga warned members of the fourth estate that they would be held culpable if they write stories which were not yet brought before him.

He also cautioned members of the prosecution who would be caught leaking information to the media to watch out noting any person caught would face his wrath.

Journalists were reminded to be kind and avoid putting the judge in a difficult place as the case against Maribe and Irungu was being heard.

“My attitude towards these people (media) is negative! Those statements that you keep on telling us about this case, stop writing them from now,” Justice Wakiaga stated.

“I am an old-school judge, if I am influenced before a case, I get upset,” he added.

Maribe and her fiance Irungu will stay in custody for seven more days after the High Court set the bail hearing date as October 24.

Justice Wakiaga stated, “Probation officers should prepare and submit a pre-bail report.”

He further directed that Jowi is treated at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

Justice Wakiaga took over the case from his counterpart Jessie Lessit after the latter ordered that the matter is heard by another judge.
