Is Ruto Campaigning for a position that will not exist in 2022?

Deputy President William Ruto has been on several occasions seen moving around in what seems to be early campaigns for the 2022 presidential elections seat.

ODM leader Raila Odinga has been leading the calls for referendum to make constitutional changes.

Through his calls, Odinga says the process must follow consultations between Kenyans and the Building Bridges task force.

The 14-member team was formed following Raila’s handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta on March 9, 2018 which ended months of animosity over the disputed 2017 presidential elections.

Ruto, on the other hand, has asked Kenyans to oppose the referendum if it is meant to create more positions for individuals.

On various occasions, the DP has dismissed the push for a plebiscite to usher in the changes as ‘idle talk.’

However, political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has on several occasions indicated that Odinga will win against Ruto on their political woes.

Mutahi also indicated the government structure after the 2022 electioneering period whereby he indicated that President Uhuru Kenyatta might come in as a prime minister as Odinga chips in as the ceremonial President.

Mutahi has reiterated his stunt, citing that there will be no elections in the year 2022 without a new amended constitution.

He further accuses Ruto of campaigning for 2022 presidential seat which he may end up loosing if the constitutional changes are made.

Mutahi argues that Ruto is campaigning for a non-existing position, which will make Odinga win the war between them easily.

Among other people opposing the constitutional changes is Lawyer Dr Miguna Miguna has recently been opposing everything done by Odinga and President Kenyatta.

Some other leaders opposing the changes are Western Kenya political leaders who argue out that Odinga wants to make constitutional changes to create government positions for himself.

On the other hand legislators allied to DP Ruto are threatening present to the parliament a bill that limits the age for Presidential candidates to not more than 70 years, which may bar Raila Odinga from 2022 politics if passed.
