Chief Inspector Maxwell Otieno was spying on me, Maribe reveals

Citizen TV news anchor Jacque Maribe has come out and accused the lead investigator Chief Inspector Maxwell Otieno of putting a ‘spy’ inside her cell at the Gigiri Police Station.

She said that a Mr. Kennedy Kenneth Omondi (K.K Omondi) was brought into her cell and she suspected that he was there to spy on her.

According to Maribe in an affidavit she said, “I suspect K.K. Omondi was planted by C.Insp.M. Otieno…to investigate and extract information. He probably thought I had something I was holding back whilst in fact I had disclosed everything.”

Ms Maribe further said that K.K Omondi was the only male occupant allowed to mingle freely and interact with female detainees despite a strict gender separation rule enforced on everyone else.

She further added saying that the officer was allowed to keep and use his phone.

He was also not required to remove his shoes as did other detainees.

During the time Maribe was detained in Gigiri, the man allegedly kept being brought for food from Java Restaurant which consistently offered her but she declined.

This even as the rules clearly spell out that nobody is allowed to share food while in police detention.

Maribe further alleges that aside from the special treatment that K.K Omondi enjoyed inside the cell, he also kept asking her questions about the Monica Kimani murder case.

“I was advised by other detainees and security personnel to be careful with him in view of his interest in my situation,” said Maribe.

In the affidavit, Mr. K.K Omondi was booked in on Sunday September 30, 2018 which was captured in the Gigiri Occurrence Book.

Maribe says she saw one of the investigators Mr. Ahmed consulting with OCS and taking photos with his phone of the O.B entry presumably related to the said K.K Omondi.

Omondi operates from the DCI establishment as the lead investigator in the case Chief Inspector Maxwell Otieno.

“Immediately upon being checked in, the said K.K. Omondi told me he was arrested on drug trafficking accusations on the night of September 29,2018 (2am), that he lives in Kilimani, that he frequents a place called Rubi -Cut and that he knows my house in Royal Park, “said Maribe.

Maribe further indicated how the officer told her that she was to be taken to Kiambu Court on Monday October 1, something she says she had no idea of then.

“He repeatedly asked me questions that were not in public domain including what kind of the investigating officer, C. Insp. M. Otieno is and that his house in Kilimani was searched and set upside down while looking for drugs in a similar manner as mine at Royal Park was case,” said Maribe.

The TV journalist has therefore asked the court to grant her bail since she had no motive to kill the deceased neither did she participate directly or indirectly.

“Further the lack of the ingredient of motive goes in to the strength of the alleged case against us/me,” the affidavit reads.

Maribe has however acknowledged that she did live with the first accused and fiancée then Joseph Irungu alias ‘Jowie’ and also allowed him to use her car.

“I cannot account for how the 1st Accused stayed in my house, how he used it and its environs, where he went, the people he hosted and those who hosted him, the places he went with my car, his friends and otherwise, who and what he carried in the car who he spoke with verbally and or electronically(telephone , email etc),” she said.

Maribe was on Wednesday remanded at the Langata Womens’ Prison awaiting her bail application hearing on October 24, 2018.
