Maribe’s account on how Irungu shot himself

Jacque Maribe’s account on Irungu’s shooting was revealed through an affidavit presented in court.

The events of the night of September 19 th bare witness to her innocence what the prosecution believe  will exonerate the TV anchor. According to Maribe, Irungu walked into the house when she was  already in bed . Maribe then heard a gunshot sound in her closet  area before finding Irungu lying on the floor with blood oozing from his upper left chest area.

Maribe rushed back to her room to seek  help though her phone only for Irungu to  rush to Kassaine’s house

“I panicked and ran back into my bedroom.I got my phone. When I turned back to the closet area, he was not there…”reads  Maribe’s statement

The two appeared in court yesterday before Judge Jessie Lessit to take plea on the charges over the murder of Monica Kimani in which they both pleaded not guilty.

Maribe and Irungu were not granted bail yesterday on the grounds that Monica Kimani’s residence as well as that Ms. Maribe have been identified to be the primary and secondary crime scenes respectively, hence, the accused persons could tamper with the ongoing probe.

Ongoing investigations are also trying  to establish any amount of money that could have been taken from the deceased’s house, noting that the late Monica Kimani was to travel out of the country.

“There is a likelihood of the accused persons interfering and intimidating the key prosecution witnesses if released on bail and therefore justifiable to subject the accused to pretrial detention noting that some of the key witnesses are the house help, manager who was with them prior to the fatal incident and after, watchmen and other key witnesses,” reads the affidavit.

Another reason as given by the prosecution is that Ms. Maribe, being a media personality associated with persons of influence, if released on bail and bond there is a high possibility that she will threaten or intimidate the key prosecution witness.

The hearing of their bail application will be heard on tomorrow on the 17th October as ordered by Judge Jessie Lessit who also directed that the case will be heard in a different court and assigned to another judge.
