Is Chebukati targeting another person’s ouster after Chiloba?

Wafula Chebukati led Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) might be targeting another person’s ouster after sacking its Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba who had been on a long term suspension.

IEBC through its Chairman Chebukati has written to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Nordin Haji to probe the alleged misappropriation of funds during the 2017 elections.

The sacking of CEO Chiloba came moments after he failed to show up during investigations over the irregularities.

Speaking during the launch of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise in Makueni, Chebukati said external and internal audits had revealed irregularities in the use funds set aside for the last General Election.

“When the results of the audit came back last month, I wrote to the DPP and the EACC Chairperson to investigate the matter. Those who were responsible for misappropriation of the election funds be it staff, commissioner or myself should not be considered Kenyans,” said Chebukati.

The electoral body’s boss maintained that anyone found culpable should be jailed.

“It is now up to the DPP and the EACC to follow up on the matter, and we hope they will do their jobs because we do not want public funds to be misused, ” he affirmed.

The Makueni County governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana while speaking during the same event cited that it was important to conduct civic education on voter registration so as to empower the voters and also to educate them against ethnic mindset when voting.

He further cited that Makueni County will work closely with IEBC to ensure intensified civic education and voter registration.
