Why El Classico will determine Real Madrid’s boss fate

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has pointed out that Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui’s future will be decided by El Classico against Barcelona.

Balague was talking to BBC Sports where he made the claims and also added that Antonio Conte could be brought in should the former Spain coach leave Santiago Bernabeu.

The Champions League defenders are winless in four games and have failed to score in the last seven hours. They have lost three in the four encounters with a 0-0 draw against city rivals Atletico Madrid.

“Lopetegui has until the Clasico against Barcelona, which is three games, to show that he is the man for the job. Meanwhile, they are looking around at people such as Antonio Conte to see if his contract situation at Chelsea has been completely resolved. If you doubt that the man in charge should be continuing, that is what Real Madrid do. There is nobody from within, like previously when Zinedine Zidane was the solution.” Balague said.

Lopetegui has had to face his opponents without Gareth Bale, Isco and Marcelo due to injuries and the expert are sure that players are still with their new manager.

“Lopetegui and some of the players feel it is just a blip and they can come out of it. The board is not so sure,” he added.

Loepetegui has coached Rayo Vallecano in 2003 where he only lasted 11 games before another stint with Porto for two years: 2014 to 2016.
