Disrurbing information emerges on evidence linking Jowie to Monica Kimani murder

It is now emerging that Police are yet to obtain DNA evidence linking Joseph ‘Jowie’ Irungu to the murder of Monica Kimani. Media reports had in the past two weeks indicated that DNA results had placed Jowie at the scene of murder with his samples matching 99.9 percent those found on Kimani’s dead body.

On Monday, however, the Nation quoted a detective aware of the investigation and who admitted that the State was only relying on circumstantial evidence as there was no concrete proof that the main suspect was at the scene of murder.

“It will take before we can really ascertain the biological identity of the killer.”

“We are relying on circumstantial evidence for now, but we have not been successful in getting any important information from the main suspect in our custody. He had not helped much. All he says is that he was not involved in the murder. He is very guarded,” the detective said.

Although Police have evidence that Jowie had visited Monica’s apartment on the night she was murdered, it would be a big challenge to solely rely on that evidence to get a murder conviction which requires the prosecution to prove its case “beyond any reasonable doubt”.

Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti has defended the investigation against Jowie and his celebrity fiancée Jacque Maribe.

“We have achieved our threshold,” Kinoti was quoted by Nation but did not elaborate.

Jowie, the main suspect in the case, was arrested on September 24 after police placed him at the scene of the crime.

CCTV footage also showed that he had used Maribe’s car to get to Lamuria Apartments where Monica Kimani was dumped in a bathtub with her throat slit.
