VIDEO: Sharon’s Family Welcome Obado’s Continued Detention

The family of slain Rongo University Student Sharon Otieno has welcomed the decision by the court to continue detaining Migori Governor Okoth Obado, his personal assistant Michael Oyamo and County Assembly Clerk Casper Obiero.

Obado and his two aides face additional charges of Killing Sharon’s unborn baby. The trio have denied the charges and made fresh bail applications. Justice Jessie Lesiit ruled that the governor and his co-accused will know the fate of their bail application on Friday October 12.

Sharon’s family lawyers have termed the decision to continue holding Obado and his co-accused as a win to them since they fear the governor will interfere with investigations if set free.

On his part, Defence lawyer Nicholas Ombija urged the court to consider Obado’s poor health and release him on bail. Obado  was remanded at Industrial Area Prison, Nairobi, but is now hospitalised at  the Kenyatta National Hospital. The governor has been in remand for two weeks.

Sharon Otieno will be buried on October 19. Ms Otieno was killed after she was kidnapped on September 3. She will be buried at her grandfather’s compound, next to her mother’s homestead.
