Ruto Should take a stand on matters referendum

Deputy President , William Ruto has in the previous weeks had different opinions on matters of referendum. The referendum call which is being pushed by former Prime Minister, Mr. Raila Odinga has received numerous critics by MP’s from Ruto’s side.

Deputy President has had different opinions on the  issue which is being pushed by opposition members led by Raila Odinga. The deputy president has pushed has taken a softer stand on matters referendum.

The Deputy President and Raila Odinga who are political rivals seem to settle for a similar ground over the weekend on matters referendum.

Speaking on different political gatherings over the weekend the two leaders placed their supporters in a political spin. The supporters bagging in what their leaders say about this issue of constitutional amendment.

Deputy President clearly stated that if the call for referendum is justified and will help in lessening the burden of the Mwananchi then they should bring it on.

This sentiments seem to differ with what the Deputy President had said  earlier. William Ruto was campaigning against this call of constitutional amendment by Mr. Odinga saying it will divide Kenyans even more further after the political division that was created during the General Election in 2008, August.

This comes after a heated exchange between this two leaders. Mr. Ruto and his closest friends accused Raila Odinga of taking advantage of the handshake to split Jubilee Party. The Deputy President was furious that Mr. Raila Odinga wants to throw him out of the party as he did in ODM Party.

The issue of referendum has since taken a different course as the Deputy President who was so much against it decided to lessen his ground and allow the opposition to continue pushing for it if its for the benefit of the mwananchi.

Earlier on, the Deputy President accused Raila Odinga on capitalizing on calls for referendum to gain his own political image . Mr. Ruto also said that former prime minister wants to use this calls for constitutional amendment to shape the 2022 Presidential race.

Raila and his camp have insisted that , the current constitution is a burden to the local Kenyan Citizens .Mr. Raila Odinga on his various campaigns in Migori County and tour around different parts of Kenya. Raila has campaigned to help a local mwananchi who is over-burden by the current system which he says will destabilize the country.

Raila wants some positions that are in the current constitution slashed from the county levels to the national levels. Raila wants a three tier system of governance that seems to retain the 47 devolved units and the national government.

Odinga wants a the country to adopt a three tier system that retains the current counties , creates regional or provincial governments with a very clear formula for revenue sharing.

William Ruto who is slowly joining the call for constitution amendment and who opposed the current constitution , has not stated his position on what it should be amended. He has come out clearly to say he will only support it if it will benefit the nation.

The county levels have in previous years accused of corruption and misappropriation of funds . Most county governments have lost a lot of cash through corruption scandals especially during the first phase of devolution. The same has been the case with the national government where corruption scandal after the other has been the order of the day.

The opposition leader and his side have since stated their ground that the constitutional amendment must be done to salvage the Kenyan people are being succumbed by the current wage bill.

The government has even borrowed a lot of money from other nations ,including China to fund its projects and take care of the system which is the a burden to Kenyans.

This comes after few weeks ago also the president accented on the controversial Petroleum bill which increased it to 8%. Most Kenyans were against this bill which was passed in a contradicting state by the Parliament.

The President has remained quite on this matter , but warned politicians to stop spreading divisive politics.
