‘France Football’ is releasing the nominations for the Ballon d’Or award on Monday. Among them, Antoine Griezmann, who gave a very honest interview to the French magazine about who he thinks is a deserved victor this year.
The Atlético Madrid forward is the cover star for the next issue of ‘France Football’. And in an interview due to be released in the coming days, ‘El Colchonero’ iterated his belief that “A Frenchman must win the Ballon d’Or”.
The forward is one of 30 players nominated for the Player of the Year award as chosen by the French magazine. His club’s Europa League triumph and France’s World Cup win are the reasons that Griezmann finds himself nominated, having been an integral part of both victorious campaigns.
The Frenchman is one of the favourites to win the gong. And, after seeing Luka Modric win the FIFA ‘The Best’ award, without the ‘Rojiblanco’ even being named as a finalist, this time it seems that he will be firmly in the running for the trophy.
Griezmann has been named as the best player of the ’91 Generation’, according to a study by ProfootballDB for Besoccer. The Atlético player’s capabilities surpass the likes of other top European football names, including Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne or Roberto Firmino.

‘El Colchonero’ already has four goals, and three assists in eleven games in all competitions this season. Yet the ultimate aim, the most coveted prize , in the tenure of Simeone and no doubt Griezmann’s career too, to be achieved at home in Wanda Metropolitano stadium, their first ever Champions League
