On Friday, ODM party leader Raila Odinga was forced to cancel a planned rally in Migori county after chaos erupted at Kehancha town. Campaigns in Kuria West were interrupted after rowdy supporters of Migori Senatorial candidates Ochilo Ayacko and Eddy Oketch clashed at Kehancha town. This forced the ODM team to cancel a planned rally at Kehancha Cereals Grounds.

Fracas began when a businessman led rowdy youth to disrupt the rally as people were gathering to await the arrival of Raila.

The group was chanting anti-Ayacko slogans citing that the area is a stronghold of Oketch.

Police were forced to shoot in the air to disperse the rowdy youth.

Local leaders alleged Kuria West MP Mathias Robi was responsible for the fracas.

“We know that Mr Robi is the one behind all these. He has hired goons, led by Mnati, to disrupt ODM rally. We call upon the police to arrest people behind this,” David Nyangi, a local political activist allied to ODM remarked.

In an audio clip recorded from prison, Migori Governor Okoth Obado urged his supporters to vote against the candidate, Ayacko. Obado advised them to rally behind Federal Party of Kenya (FPK) ticket holder Oketch. IEBC will conduct Migori by-elections on October 8.
