Hellen Obado, the wife of embattled Migori governor Okoth Obado has revealed that she pleaded with her husband to marry a second wife. This is according to a statement Hellen recorded with the Directorate of criminal Investigation (DCI)
According to the Migori First Lady, there were rumors of the governor seeking a second wife in the public domain. She said the rumors spread so much even on social media that she had to address them at a public rally.
“I asked him if he was planning to marry Sharon as a second wife. I told him that I honestly preferred he married instead of having affairs. He told me he had no such plans and that he had ended the relationship with the said girl,” Hellen’s statement reads.
Hellen also revealed that Sharon Otieno was plotting to blackmail her husband with a sex tape. She revealed that in fact this was the first time she had of the slain Rongo University student.
Hellen Obado told detectives that a man, whose mobile she did not have, called her from Awendo subcounty and introduced himself as a friend of the governor’s family.
Hellen said the caller informed her that Sharon was booked at the Imperial Hotel in Kisumu where the sex episode was to be videotaped.
“I called one of our coordinators from Awendo to inquire if Sharon was part of the governor’s campaign team dubbed Warembo na Obado. We confirmed she wasn’t,” the governor’s wife said. Hellen said she called her husband, who was at the devolution conference in Kakamega, to inform him of the plot.
“I asked him whether he knew Sharon and whether he had booked with her at the said hotel. He denied that and informed me that he was staying at the Acacia Premier hotel,” she told the DCI.
“I told him that I had information of a plan of recording him with Sharon. He dismissed the allegations and maintained that he was not booked at the Imperial Hotel.”
Police are trying to piece together the events that happened before and after Sharon’s murder. Sharon’s mutilated body was found in a thicket in Kodera forest on 3rd August, two days after she had been lured to abduction by Michael Oyamo, the governor’s aide.
Obado was yesterday rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital for treatment after he developed an illness at Industrial Area Police Station where he is being held. The governor has been charged with aiding and abetting the murder of his seven month pregnant girlfriend
