‘Death threats cannot stop me’-Noordin Haji

Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji said he had received threats over his onslaught on big fish involved in corruption .

The dreaded DPP stated he was used to threats since terror groups; al-Shabaab and Al Qaeda threatened him when he was National Intelligence Service agent .Haji was categorical threats would not cow him and that he would be fulfilled to die in the line of duty doing excellence for God and Kenya .According to Haji his family had not been spared in the threats but vowed he would never be intimidated

The DPP said there was goodwill from all relevant sectors and reiterated Friday arrests would go on unabated whenever there was a reason for arrest Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Mohamed Haji is dreaded and revered in the same measure courtesy of his no nonsense demeanor since he took oath of office on Wednesday, March 28. Haji who revived the office which had taken a low key status and lost public trust through ordering for arrests of influential individuals involved in graft confirmed some people have threatened him with death but vowed he would not relent in his pursuit of justice.   In a report yesterday, Noordin said it was not the first time he had received death threats but affirmed he would prosecute any individual involved in illegalities irrespective of their wealth and positions. Haji who initially worked as a National Intelligence Service (NIS) agent said he had even received threats from Al Qaeda and al-Shabaab terror squads in his former job but that never stopped him from doing his job.

“I received threats from the terror groups when I was an NIS agent so there is nothing new. My family was even threatened and similar threats still come with al-Shabaab renewing their threats. Some people have even tried to drag my father’s name in a National Land Commission case to intimidate me but I know and am committed to my job,” he said.

He said those who dragged the name of his father Yusuf Haji, a former Defense Minister and current Garissa Senator into the land case were simply telling him to go slow on corruption cases they were involved in wondering why the issue came up after other suspects had already been charged.

Haji who had been praised by politicians, religious leaders and the citizens with Uhuru banking on his leadership to tame graft said his priority was the economy and national security of Kenya since they impact the citizens the most. He also said he would order for arrests of individuals he believes are culpable for illegalities on any day saying high profile individuals decrying Friday arrests are not more equal than other citizens who are arrested irrespective of the days of the week.
