Jose Mourinho is considering a move for Chelsea defender Gary Cahill. Cahill, 32, will ask for a mid-season departure from Stamford Bridge if he remains on the fringes of Maurizio Sarri’s first team.

According to reports a string of Premier League and Championship clubs are interested. Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is a fan of Cahill, who he managed during his second spell in charge of Chelsea.

He will reportedly keep tabs on Cahill’s situation ahead of the January transfer window.

Cahill admitted last week he could be forced to leave Chelsea in January.

He said: “Whatever my future holds, in terms of the club, and the relationship I have with the club and the fans, it will have been a huge part of my footballing life. I’ve got maximum respect for everybody here.
