Young Arsenal sensation reveals admiration for Arsenal icons aided his decision to move to the Emirates

Matteo Guendouzi has cited his admiration for Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira as one of the reasons behind his decision to move to  Arsenal.

A summer signing from Lorient, Guendouzi has hit the ground running at the Emirates, impressing with his early performances from the heart of midfield.

And the youngster, who grew up idolising Arsenal greats and fellow Frenchmen Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira, says the duo’s history at the club made the decision to join even easier.

Matteo said, “Growing up, I watched other teams and I fell in love with Arsenal. I wasn’t really interested in posters but I saw many, many videos, players like Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira made me love the club and I dreamt of going there.”

The young midfield sensation continued by saying,”When I see the Emirates and the statue of Henry, I think back to those videos. From the moment Arsenal made an approach, everything was clear for me. I am  not going to lie, I thought it would happen later in my career. But joining such a club at 19, any player would like that.”

He has started all five of the Gunners’ s Premier League matches so far this season, and played 33 minutes in their 4-2 Europa League win over Vorskla on Thursday evening.
