Dry coffers? Gor Mahia drops shocker on Sportpesa deal

Gor Mahia Organizing secretary Judith Nyangi has raised concerns over the genuinity of Sportpesa sponsorship and has disclosed that details of the deal are only known to a few individuals.

The Kenyan Premier League champions are facing a difficult time and their players have downed tools due to unpaid allowances. This has led to immediate struggles in the league, losing the last two league matches and four in all competitions.

After the Machakos trip where they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Ulinzi Stars, the Organizing secretary decided to speak on the issue and she says they are unable to reach Sportpesa to establish if they have sent the sponsorship cash to the club. She feels Sportpesa are hiding something and  that is why they have ensured that details of the Sponsorship are only known to few.

“On Sportpesa, they never give us the audience. They deal with specific people and its only a guy called Brian, a certain pilot,  who is communicated to. I don’t understand if he is the one who helped the club acquire the sponsorship. It is not easy to know if Sportpesa have remitted cash or not. I have tried to reach the C.E.O Ronald Karauri but he never picks my calls even SMS yet he has my number. If Karauri is genuine, then why is that the sponsorship details are known to a few people? This is a community club and its high time Sportpesa comes out clearly, ” she said in a video.

Nyangi has also to reveal that the club is yet to receive cash from South African side Kaizers Chief despite having sold Uganda international Godfrey Walusimbi.

“Gor Mahia is a big club and some of the things happening should are unwarranted. We have a sponsor and more avenues to raise cash. I have done my research and established that the club is yet to received Walusimbi clash.  I found letters sent to Kaizer and they claim that they send the money to the wrong account and it was reversed, ” she added.

Sportpesa reinstated Gor Mahia Sponsorship in April and under the new deal, Gor Mahia were to receive Sh198 million
