Juventus manager Massimillano Allegri has called for VAR int he Champions League. That’s on the back of Cristiano Ronaldo being sent off against Valencia. The forward received a straight red card. However, many people felt it was harshly given, including Allegri.

The Juve manager noted that with VAR, the official could make a better decision, and the red card would not have been given. He said: “I can only say that VAR would have helped the referee make the right decision.

Mostly because it was the 29th minute in the first half in a difficult game, to find yourselves with 10 men for a red card, that was not right. It could have complicated the situation for us, but the guys have been very good. They played well as long as they had to, until (we were) 2-0 and then we defended with order, leaving them a few shots on goal, but nothing special.”

Of course, the red card will mean Ronaldo has to sit out at least one game. It could well be just the match against Young Boys. The Champions League red will mean an automatic one game ban – yet this could be extended.

Ronaldo could miss further games, and there has even been talk of the player getting added bans after taking so long to leave the field. That could see him miss the games against his former club Manchester United. Of course, that’s the last thing Ronaldo would want.
