Maradona starts off Mexico managerial career in style

Argentina legend Diego Maradona’s managerial career in Mexico was off to a flier as his side Dorados beat Tapachula 4-1 in Culiacan in the Mexican second tier.

A hat-trick from Vinicio Angulo and a goal by Alonso Escoboza ensured Maradona’s side the victory while Sebastian Ibars scored for Culiacan to half the deficit earlier on in the second half. There was controversy however as Maradona snubbed a pre-match press conference interview amid the media frenzy that surrounded his joining of the club.

Maradona in a post-match press conference cleared the air surrounding the rumors, “I’m not here to steal money from anyone. I came to work not to keep mouths shut. Nobody knows what I’m doing during the week with my coaching staff so that’s why some voices are silent now.”

The former Napoli star was confident his side would win, “There is no Maradona effect. I knew that we will win when I saw them train with desire, with hunger, these guys are hungry for glory. When I met with the players after the game I told them that nothing has been achieved yet, they won a game and we have many others to win but with this attitude we are going to achieve it.”

This is the second club that Maradona is taking charge of this year after leaving  Al-Fujairah SC in the United Arabs Emirates back in April.
