Nakuru Deputy Speaker, Samuel Tonui arraigned in court

17 people this morning were arraigned in Nakuru court following the Njoro clashes; among them is Nakuru Deputy Speaker, Samuel Tonui.

Among the suspects who were arrested are;

Nessuit sub location assistant chief Nicholus Lesingo, Sigotic assistant chief Sammy Kuirui, a former Member of County Assembly (MCA) Christopher Samoei, Nakuru County Deputy speaker Samuel Tonui. Njoro Constituency Development Fund (CDF) chairperson William Lagat and head-teacher of Tiritagoi primary school Mr Danson Nyangare.

Earlier last week, 3 people were reported dead and 6 were said to be receiving treatment at Nakuru level 5 hospital after tribal clashes erupted at Nessuit in Nakuru’s Njoro sub-county.

The Njoro clashes came just few weeks after a warning was issued to those encroaching on Mau Forest. Reports indicated that clashes between two warring communities caused tension after several people were shot with arrows

The clashes between two communities are linked to the ongoing Mau Forest evictions. There was heavy police presence on the ground with most businesses remaining closed.

A directive issued was to  limit movements by locals from 6 am to 6 pm.

The court has demanded that all suspects remain in police custody as they continue with the  investigations
