Winger Costa lost his head with Sassuolo’s Federico Di Francesco – as the Serie A minnows bagged a late consolation at Allianz Stadium.
The Brazil international made a rash tackle on Italy Under 21 man Di Francesco before aiming a head butt and the spitting in his rival’s MOUTH.
Di Francesco reacted calmly to the disgusting act before the referee showed Costa a red card – after going through VAR.
While the match saw Cristiano Ronaldo grab a double to open his account with his new club, the game will probably be best remembered for the disgusting incident in the final minute of injury time which saw Costa sent to the stands and likely facing a hefty suspension.
Juve were cruising at 2-0 before Sassuolo pulled one back in injury time to add some tension to proceedings.
As the game entered the final stages, Costa got into a tussle with substitute Federico di Francesco with the Brazilian winger elbowing the forward, before the pair got into a heated argument.
VAR reviewed the incident and the referee correctly gave him his marching orders – though his conduct was probably worthy of three red cards.
Unsurprisingly, Twitter erupted with reaction to the Costa’s horrible foul play:
