Ozil final break silence on relationship with new Arsenal boss

Mesut Ozil insists he is delighted to be playing for Unai Emery after starring in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Newcastle on Saturday.

Arsene Wenger’s successor was forced to deny reports of a bust-up with the German after he missed last month’s win over West Ham through illness.

Despite maintaining he shares a healthy relationship with Ozil, Emery has repeatedly asked for more from the 29-year-old and admitted he will have to get used to playing in different positions in his new-look side.

After scoring what turned out to be the decisive goal in Arsenal’s third consecutive win, Ozil said: ‘I am very happy to play for Arsenal and especially for the new coach.

‘He knows what he wants and the team accepts that, we have a good relationship. We score and we are happy, even the players that don’t play, we are all team.’

Ozil was making his 200th appearance in all competitions for the club on the fifth anniversary of his debut which followed a then club record £42million move from Real Madrid. ‘Really, 200? I’m happy but most important we take the three points,’ he added.

‘Congratulations to the whole team, we played well. Newcastle were good, aggressive. We showed our passion and took the points.’
