Activist Okiya Omtatah has moved to court to challenge the move by President Uhuru Kenyatta to launch reforms in the National Police Service.
According to Omtatah the implementation of the reforms translates to irregular, unlawful and unconstitutional changes.
Omtatah wants the implementation of the new command structure suspended.
In the court papers, Omtatah also wants the court to issue a temporary orders prohibiting the government from giving effect to the reforms or changes announced by President Kenyatta, on September 13, 2018.
Some of the changes the activist wants temporarily stopped include; changes in the National Police Service, including changes in the structure and command of the National Police Service, the integration of Kenya Police Service, the Administration Police Service, the change of uniforms, the re-branding of colleges, and the introduction of housing allowances for junior officers.
Well done our President @UKenyatta on changing the police uniform….however Kenya is in the midst of much; such as financial burden, wrong aptitudes and attitudes from some leaders in different sections of our country.#cosmeticreforms won’t solve our underneath issues

Changing Kenya police uniforms shouldn’t be something to bother us at this time……
We should be thinking of police reforms and bettering the lives of those that serve in that sector. Someone to tell GOK to try and get its priorities right!!
