Why Chelsea star nearly smashed his TV during Champions League draw

Chelsea’s defender Marcos Alonso has admitted says he felt like smashing the TV during UEFA Champions League draw

Chelsea saw them lose the Champions League cut-off after finishing fifth last season and the Spaniard felt it was a pity for the Blues not to be part of the teams that will battle for the ultimate European club trophy. Antonio Conte was sacked following the dismal performance.

“When you see the Champions League draw on TV, the groups and your team is not there, I felt like smashing the TV set. I hope it’s a lesson for us to fight this year and compete for the Premier League and qualify for the Champions League. I think last season we deserved more and it’s a pity not be in the competition this season,” the full-back admitted.

Real Madrid and PSG were reported to be courting Alonso during the Summer but he has opened up on the speculation saying he never envisaged a move away from Stamford Bridge. He also added that Eden Hazard actually never wanted to leave as his family is settled well in London.

“Unless the club had wanted to sell me, my wish was and has always been to stay. The day I retire from football I will return to Spain but right now I have three years left at Chelsea and I’m very happy there

“I didn’t see Hazard at Madrid. He is very happy at Chelsea. I don’t know if there was an interest or not but Hazard and his family are very happy at Chelsea.” he concluded.
