How Tottenham star is fighting to escape Military deployment

Tottenham Hotspur star Heung-min Son is now closer to securing a military service exemption.

The Tottenham star captained South Korea to a dramatic 4-3 win over Uzebkistan in the quarter-finals of the Asian Games. Son was allowed to compete in the tournament by Spurs as he hopes to secure the victory needed to avoid national service

Under Korean law, all men must do 21 months of National Service before their 28th birthday. Son, 26, is able to earn an exemption by the South Korean Army if he wins either this year’s Asian Games or the 2019 Asian Cup. South Korea will next face Syria or Vietnam in the semi-final on Wednesday.

Tottenham will be hopeful Son can seal glory in Indonesia with his country before returning to London. The energetic forward, a £22million signing from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, has helped Spurs finish in the top four of the Premier League for the past three seasons.
