Bordeaux suspended Gus Poyet earlier this month after he criticised the club’s owners for selling striker Gaetan Laborde to rivals Montpellier without his permission.

Talks are not completely off, but both parties appear to be at an impasse. Future owners American investment fund GACP are not currently willing to offer Henry the €2m a year salary that he is holding out for, nor match the number of new signings that the Frenchman is demanding before the window shuts next week.

Negotiations are however ongoing right now between Joe DaGrosa, the head of the GACP fund, and Thierry Henry’s agent in London.

The Americans had not counted on requiring a Plan B, but have recently opened discussions with Claudio Ranieri, with Antonio Conte’s brother also being approached.
