It’s approaching the 18th day of the month. Most Kenyans are barely making it financially. The system has us living in an environment  where its almost second nature to be broke at this time of the month, or seriously accelerating towards that direction. Being the creative lot that we are though, we almost always manage to at least make the bare minimum( Not that this is the goal though). The creativity involves coming up with some ‘hidden’ quotes to conceal the fact that one has no extra cash left, mostly from co worlders and relatives, here are a few….

Nilikula heavy breakfast

Hidden; No lunch money. This especially happens when its lunch hour in the office and your mates are mostly headed for the kibanda and wondering why you are not coming along, as you usually do while ‘loaded’.

Mimi ni introvert

Hidden: Partying with the current budget might be overstretching things. Mostly answered when the ‘turn up’ buddies are constantly buzzing your phone asking you to join them for a night out. Also easily applicable while hitting on a ‘slay queen’ who will sooner rather than later ask you to take her out on a Friday night but guess what? No cash bruh! So you immediately turn into an introvert who spends the entire day off watching movies or the EPL matches that you placed hopeful but ultimately heartbreaking bets on.

Leo sina Haraka na kazi

Hidden; I might be a little short on ‘prime Time’ transport money at the moment. 8pm is cheaper.

So your normal office departure time is 30 minutes past and you are still glued to your computer, not looking like you will be done any time soon. ‘Aren’t you going home today?’ comes the question from the second last colleague in the office, and boom! ‘Leo sina haraka na job’ will always save you.

My Bank is the worst

Hidden; AM BROKE!

This is the last throw of the dice for most of us. Usually occurs when someone who lent you money is constantly knocking at your door or ensuring you are not online on any social media platform or else they will remind you you owe them.
