Arsenal new boy Lucas Torreira was blasted on the pitch by a club coach after the Gunners’ 3-2 defeat by Chelsea on Saturday.

After an extended break post-World Cup and moving to North London from Sampdoria, the Uruguayan was expected to start against the Blues at Stamford Bridge.

However, the 23-year-old came off the bench for Arsenal in the second half with the game finely poised at 2-2.

But Torreira, according to the Mirror was subjected to a dressing down after the final whistle as he struggled to adjust to the frenetic pace of the Premier League, especially in a highly-charged London derby.

The midfielder was caught napping when Alexandre Lacazette tried to find him with a pass and instead of coming to meet the ball, he was on his heels and it was intercepted by Eden Hazard.

And seconds later the Marcos Alonso fired the winner and Chelsea took all three points to leave the Gunners with two defeats from their opening two games.

When the final whistle went, Unai Emery’s assistant Juan Carlos Carcedo stormed onto the pitch to confront Torreira over his mistake as he went to salute the traveling Arsenal faithful. Carcedo look incensed with Torreira who also allowed Alonso get away from him to score the crucial winning goal.

The pair were in deep in conversation for well over a minute as the coach looked to talk the South American through what went wrong on the pitch.

He took the verbal volley on board as Carcedo then made his way back to the changing room, leaving Torriera to applaud the Arsenal fans before following him down the tunnel.

The Gunners take on West Ham on Saturday as both teams search for their first win of the season.
