In his statement he said, “As of today, 400 officers have been cleared to return to work and resume their duties. Due to employer/employee confidentiality terms, communication to the officers as to the conditions of return, is to be effected by their respective authorized officers.”

President Kenyatta had on June 1 ordered heads of procurement departments in all ministries and parastatals to proceed on compulsory leave to allow for a thorough lifestyle audit following the then corruption that was going on in the government offices.

Their deputies had taken over in an acting capacity.

The audit is now expected to move to officers holding lower ranks, with the notification being done through relevant departmental leads.

The government did not indicate how many officers were not cleared after the lifestyle audit, only promising that such officials would be fairly treated.

Kiraithe further added saying, “Those who will not have been cleared to return to office will be processed in line with existing law, human resource guidelines, and within the tenets of the Fair Administrative Action Act.”

Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua had indicated that lie detectors and polygraphs would also be used to ensure full accountability by the affected officials.

The process initially witnessed a delay after the High Court issued orders stopping the exercise.
