NASA political strategist David Ndii has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to reclaim Weston Hotel in the fight against corruption.

Following the government’s demolition of buildings including Southend Mall and Ukay Centre, members of the public have been putting other structures on the spot and demanding action by relevant authorities.

Ndii posted a photo of the hotel owned by Deputy President William Ruto on Twitter on Monday and wrote: “[Uhuru], this is public land. One more friend you need to lose. And once you are done with him, turn yourself in.”

He tagged the DP in the tweet on the hotel that is located in Lang’ata, Nairobi.

The DP admitted during an interview on Citizen TV that he is a shareholder in the hotel, which is opposite Wilson Airport. Weston sits on public land and the transfer of the plot was done against the advice of senior government officials.

According to court and confidential government documents, various companies were used to acquire the land.

According to the Survey Plan Folio Number 198 and Register Number 169, registered on January 31, 1990, the land was public land allocated to the Directorate of Civil Aviation.

On August 22, 2001, Muthaura, who was then the PS in the Ministry of Transport and Communication, wrote to his counterpart in the ministry of Lands, Nehemia Ng’eno, asking Ng’eno to issue a title deed in favour of the Directorate of Civil aviation after a Ms Kikubi applied to be allocated the land.

“In order to safeguard ownership of the government plot, which seems to attract the attention of property developers, I request that your office issue a title in favour of DCA,” said Muthaura, in letter Ref No MTC/CONF/6.111/(55).

Despite Muthaura’s plea, the land was allocated to Priority Limited, a company associated with Ruto, on August 30, 2002, when Ruto was Minister for Home Affairs and a few months before Kanu was removed from power by the Mwai Kibaki-led Narc.

On Sunday, Uhuru said he has lost lots of friends amid the fight against impunity.

“I have been receiving many calls that, you know … ‘how can you just watch this destruction go on? You must stop it’. I say to them ‘it’s difficult to stop not because we love to destroy but we must fight impunity,” he said.

He wants government officials who approved the construction of buildings on riparian land arrested and prosecuted.

“… because if we fail we will not achieve our dreams and a time has come for us to fight impunity. ”

Uhuru said a time has come for Kenyans to realise that no matter how much money you have, it cannot save you.

“No matter how much money you have or big friends in big places, it will not save you …We must recognise that for Kenya to succeed, impunity must end,” he said.

He said Kenyans must fight corruption, adding that graft is a force that “prevents us from achieving our dreams”.

This comes a day after embattled National Land Commission chairman Muhammad Swazuri was arrested over the alleged purchase of dubious land for the Standard Gauge Railway.

Police also arrested the commission’s chief executive/secretary Chavangi Aziz Tom and Kenya Railways Managing Director Atanas Maina.
