Kate Middleton and Prince William, also, have been married since 2011. The pair met at university, but it was not always plain sailing. The couple broke up at one stage in their relationship. Kate Middleton’s words on her break up with Prince William have resurfaced.
The Duchess of Cambridge, who has been married to her husband for seven years, revealed the lessons she learnt from her brief split with the royal. The pair addressed the break-up, which was covered by the papers, in their engagement interview.
Speaking candidly Kate, an art history graduate, told how the time away from William was actually a good thing. She said: “I think I at the time wasn’t very happy about it, but actually it made me a stronger person.
“You find out things about yourself that maybe you hadn’t realised. Or I think you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you are younger. I really valued that time for me as well although I didn’t think it at the time. Looking back on it.”
Prince William also gave his two cents on the split.
He said: “I wouldn’t believe everything you read in the paper but in that particular instance we did split up for a bit.
“We both were very young, it was at university, we were sort of both finding ourselves as such and being different characters and stuff, it was very much trying to find our own way and we were growing up, and so it was just sort of a bit of space and a bit of things like that and it worked out for the better.”
The split is thought to have taken place over the Christmas period in 2006.
Kate had invited Prince William to spend New Years with her family.However, the Prince, after at first accepting the invitation, changed his mind, causing some trouble with the couple.
This is not the first piece of profound relationship advice Kate has dolled out in the past.
According to reports Kate Middleton helped Chelsea Davy in her relationship with Prince Harry, 33. Harry invited his blonde South African ex girlfriend to Kate and William’s wedding.
In a royal biography, Harry: Conversations with the Prince, author Angela Levin said it was this day which spelt the end for the couple.
“A friend revealed that seeing the enormity and pomp of the day convinced Chelsy that she and Harry had been right to separate,” she wrote.
There was also the questions of their “different worlds” – at this point, Prince Harry was completing a helicopter pilot course with the British Army, while Chelsy was studying law at University of Leeds.
Kate Middleton, or Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, was born on 9 January 1982 at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading, England.
She was born to Michael and Carole Middleton, a former flight dispatcher and air hostess. The couple founded a party supplies company, Party Pieces, in 1987 – now estimated to be worth £30 million.Kate has a younger sister Pippa Matthews, 34, and a younger brother James Middleton, 31. Kate and her family moved to Amman, Jordan, in 1984, where the future Duchess was educated at an English-speaking nursery school.
After moving back to Berkshire the family sent Kate to private school, St Andrews School. She went on to briefly study at Downe House before moving onto Marlborough College where she boarded.
For university the young Kate attended the University of St Andrews in Fife, Scotland. Here she was awarded an undergraduate MA (2:1 Hons) in history of art.
Kate met Prince William when they were both studying at St Andrews, and both living in St Salvator’s Hall. Famously, William reportedly took a fancy to Kate after she wore a see-through dress during a fashion show.
In 2003 the couple began dating and lived together during their second year of university. The couple split in April 2007, however, in October they were back together.Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton with his late mother Princess Diana’s engagement ring in October 2010. The couple were holidaying in Kenya at the time.
On 29 April 2011 they married at Westminster Abbey with a whopping 26 million watching the event live. Kate wore an Alexander McQueen dress worth a reported £250,000 on the big day.
Kate assumed the title “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge” and also become the Duchess of Cambridge on the day.
