Renowned political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has expressed his view on the ongoing demolition by President Kenyatta on building sitting on riparian land as well as corrupt personels

According to Mutahi Ngunyi  the arrest of high-profile suspects and demolish of buildings built on riparian land was misguided and ill-advised.

He further continued saying that the President Kenyatta was unlikely to go all the way in dealing with his “friends and relatives” involved in corruption.

In his weekly video he said, “Uhuru will have to demolish hotels and property owned by his friends, but will he do it? I doubt it. If he has taken the holier-than-though attitude, he should demolish houses owned by the poor man and those owned by the privileged Moi or the Kibaki families.”

He further continued saying, “Uhuru should not rely on the public that is cheering him. They will cheer him today and hate him tomorrow…If we embrace this culture of razzmatazz and Walhalla, a culture of sending bulldozers and cameras for the nation to feast on, we will be creating a war economy.”

According to Ngunyi,  President Kenyatta could be cracking down on impunity to win public favour.

His hypothesis came at a time when the President has expressed support for several operations widely seen as dealing a blow to corruption.

Buildings in Nairobi have been demolished after they were found to have been built on riparian land where evictions are ongoing in the Mau Forest.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has said he is ready to lose more friends in the current war against corruption. He said he had lost many friends over the last few weeks but vowed that the government will not relent until the battle to rid Kenya of corruption and impunity is won.

The president further continued saying, “We must fight impunity not because we want to destroy for the sake of it. If we do not fight impunity, we will not achieve our goals. For the country to succeed we must fight corruption and impunity,”

The Head of State added that corruption is one of the forces that keeps frustrating national dreams including access to quality education, quality health care, decent meals for all, and quality jobs that give pride and dignity to Kenyans.
