Wife batterer Daudi Nzomo handed lengthy jail term

David Nzomo, the man from Makueni County who was caught on camera assaulting his wife at Kya-aka village in Muvau has been handed a 12-year jail term by Makueni Court. He will serve 10 years in prison & 2 years on probation.

Nzomo, 36, was arrested at Nguu market last week on Thursday, with the help of residents.

Makueni county commissioner Mohammed Maalim said he was taken to Nguu AP camp. “Police had been pursuing him since Tuesday after the video clip went viral,” Maalim told journalists.

The video of Nzomo brutalising his wife as bystanders filmed and pleaded with him to stop, went viral angering many Kenyans who demanded for his arrest. The DPP ordered for his arrest together with the bystanders.

Reports indicated that residents baying for Nzomo’s blood surrounded the camp. The victim identified as Mwende, 33, is at Makueni Level Four Hospital. Makueni county police commander Joseph Napeiyan said the assault took place on Monday.

The video circulating on the internet shows the 33-year-old being kicked and pushed to the ground. Chief Andrew Kisenge said the man followed the woman who had gone to graze animals in the field and attacked her. He accused his wife of infidelity.

The video is believed to have been shot by people who responded to the woman’s distress call. In the clip, a man demands that the suspect stops beating his wife while a woman pleads with the attacker to spare her.

However, the suspect shouts back and threatens to slit his wife’s throat. Makueni county police commander Joseph Napeiyan said the incident happened on Monday.
