Trouble at Manchester United, Mourinho frustrated

Jose Mourinho’s frustration of Manchester United’s transfer woes has reportedly led to staff “actively” looking to avoid him.

United have made three signings this summer with Diogo Dalot, Lee Grant and Fred all arriving.

And the Independent claim Mourinho’s frustrations are causing problems within the club.

It is claimed people are avoiding the Portuguese as he grows increasingly irritated.

The report says Mourinho is asking questions about when players will be sold to help fund additions and is not getting the answers he wants.

There have been no shortage of names to sign with Raphael Varane, Toby Alderweireld and Jose Gimenez all linked with moves to United. Recent reports have suggested that Mourinho expects Alderweireld to sign, although relations between United and Tottenham have soured over transfer business – a feud that dates back to 2008 when Dimitar Berbatov joined the Red Devils from Spurs.

Sources claim that some of Mourinho’s targets ‘are not possible and real’.It is suggested United have a specific type of central defender in mind – one that is aged between 23 and 29 and is comfortable in possession.  Mourinho is in constant contact with Ed Woodward over transfers which is mainly via Whatsapp.

Having previously bought a centre-back in each of the last two summer, United have five at their disposal. Mourinho admitted earlier this week he’s not sure if more players will come through the door before the window shuts on August 9.

“I’ve no idea. I’m not going to lie to you,” he said. “I’m not going to say somebody is coming or nobody is coming.”

However, Mourinho dropped a clear hint after his side’s 1-1 draw in their pre-season game against Club America on Friday about how his back four could line up to face Leicester in their opening Premier League fixture.

He said: “Valencia, Smalling, Bailly and Shaw, they are probably the ones to start the season.”

Luke Shaw refuse to join Everton. Shaw, 23, has made just 22 Premier League appearances for United over the past two seasons and has endured public criticism from Jose Mourinho. Mourinho has accused Shaw of not being up for the job with Ashley Young instead being preferred at left-back.Shaw has one year left on his contract and he is a target for new Everton boss Marco Silva. However, McGarry, speaking on the Transfer Window podcast, says he is refusing to go as he wants to fight for his place at Old Trafford.

“One of the core causes of this particular chain of problems (getting a left-back) is Luke Shaw’s refusal to even consider Everton as a destination,” McGarry said. “Everton were very keen on Shaw, they thought they would get him at a knockdown price, compared to the money Manchester United paid for him four years ago. Shaw has said ‘no, I will see out the remaining year on my contract and leave for free and battle for my place at Manchester United rather than move anywhere else’.”

Shaw’s decision to stay put has forced Everton into re-evaluating their transfer plans with Kieran Tierney now an option.

McGarry added: “This has forced Everton to go back to Tierney after originally him being their first choice and consider Celtic’s asking price of £30m. I don’t believe £30m is overpriced for Kieran Tierney. This is a guy with Champions League experience, a lot for left-backs being bandied around don’t have that.”

United made Shaw the most expensive teenager in world football in 2014 when they signed him for £30million. But his stock has now nosedived and he is down the pecking order at Old Trafford.Shaw this week vowed to fight it out for his spot and said: “There are opportunities for all the players, not just me. I look at it like that. The next five games are about fitness. I want to prove to the manager that I can be in his team. When everyone comes back, I still want to be the first name on the team-sheet. It’s time for me to show him I can be in the team.”
