Eating nuts boost a man’s sperm count

For people trying for a baby there’s a range of supplements and nutrients which promise to help the process along. And there’s a range available for both men and women to boost their fertility, with mothernadbaby.co.uk coming up with a comprehensive list of foods for your man.

To make a baby, you need two to tango and men need to get their swimming team in order, with certain foods said to boost sperm count. Omega-3 fatty acids are great at boosting blood flow to the nether regions and increasing sperm count.

Nuts are a great source of these and are ideal for snacking.Other foods which contain the key fats are salmon, chicken and crab.

Men probably need little convincing to eat more of this. If there was ever an excuse to eat chocolate, this is it. Dark choc contains antioxidants – as much as pomegranates – which help counteract the effects of toxins and pollutions in the air which can damage fertility. And it contains an amino acid which has been shown to double semen volume.

It might sound like a menu of aphrodisiacs, but oysters are good source of zinc which helps in the production of swimmers. Other good sources are mussels and lobster, so time to head to a seafood restaurant.
Bananas
Known for being packed full of vitamins, eating bananas boosts anyone’s health. It’s good for dads-to-be as it has vitamins C, A and B1, known to boost a man’s ability to produce swimmers. And they contain enzyme bromelain, known to regulate sexual hormones.

Reason for low Sperm count

A hormone imbalance, such as hypogonadism (reduced hormone production)
A genetic problem such as Klinefelter syndrome
Having had undescended testicles as a baby
A structural problem – for example, the tubes that carry sperm being damaged and blocked by illness or injury, or being absent from birth
A genital infection such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea or prostatitis (infection of the prostate gland)
varicoceles (enlarged veins in the testicles)
Previous surgery to the testicles or hernia repairs
the testicles becoming overheated
Excessive alcohol consumption, smoking and using drugs such as marijuana or cocaine
Certain medications, including testosterone replacement therapy, long-term anabolic steroid use, cancer medications (chemotherapy), some antibiotics and some antidepressants

Sadly it’s not all decadent food, and it may not be your fave but broccoli is full of vitamin A, which a lack of can cause low fertility. A deficiency makes sperm lethargic, so perk them up with a helping of broccoli.

Asparagus
Again, sometimes you have to eat your greens to get results.Asparagus is full of vitamin C, which helps with both volume and speed.

Ginseng
It may not be a food per say, but ginseng boosts testosterone.A root, it has been in infertility treatments for centuries. It’s easy to take in tea form, and boosts levels of the much-needed hormone.

Garlic
While it may not be much of an aphrodisiac, and you may need to brush your teeth before kissing your partner, garlic does wonders for men in the bedroom department.

There are two key ingredients which make it good for baby-making – allicin and selenium. The allicin improves blood flow as well as protecting sperm from damage. And selenium helps promote mobility and is antioxidant.
