What Paul Pogba said about Leo Messi after Argentina’s World Cup exit

Saturday witnessed one of the great World Cup knockout matches as France beat Argentina 4-3. Antoine Griezmann opened the scoring for France with a penalty after Kylian Mbappe was hacked down in the box. But Argentina headed into the break level thanks to a wonder-strike from Angel Di Maria. France were stunned at the start of the second period as Gabriel Mercado put the South Americans in front. But France didn’t buckle. They hit back through arguably the best goal of the 2018 World Cup scored by Benjamin Pavard.

After the France-Argentina game, Man United’s Paul Pogba spoke about Leo Messi in the mixed zone. Leaving aside the content on Pogba’s comments for one second, it’s worth noting that Pogba speaks Spanish fluently. That’s quite amazing considering Pogba has never lived in Spain or played for a Spanish side. Is this a sign that the Man United midfielder will one day be La Liga bound?

Either way, after the Argentina game Pogba showered Leo Messi with praise. He said: “We (France) have played against the best player in the world (Messi). I’ve been watching him for ten years to learn from him. He makes me love football. He’s always going to be an idol for me.”

Many are now wondering is Messi will retire from international football.
