Arsenal & Napoli: Petr Cech confirms transfer interest

Last season wasn’t the best for Petr Cech at Arsenal. While Cech did managed to chalked up his 200th Premier League clean sheet last year with the Gunners, Arsenal’s backline was far too porous. Cech received plenty of criticism as Arsene Wenger’s charges only finished in sixth spot in the league. Unai Emery is now in charge at the Emirates Stadium, and plenty of changes are afoot.

In goal, Cech already appears to have lost his number one jersey. Arsenal have signed German keeper Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen. One of the rumours which has swirled about is that Cech could leave Arsenal to join Napoli. A little like at the Gunners, Napoli are going through a major summer of transition.

Carlo Ancelotti is now at the helm of the Serie A club. In goal, Pepe Reina’s days at Napoli are over, leaving the club in need of a new number one. Cech has been linked with a possible switch. But, in fresh quotes posted by Calcio Mercato, the Czech Republic international has confirmed his plans to stay in north London:

“Napoli were interested in me, but my future is at Arsenal and I do not think about changing clubs. I still have a year of my contract with Arsenal, the only thing I want to think about is fighting for a starting position.”

If Cech is happy with being on the bench, will Arsenal be happy to keep him around? Of course, Colombian international keeper David Ospina remains on the Gunners’ books too. One suspects Ospina will look to change clubs this summer.
