Blatter Plans to Attend Portugal vs Morocco Match Despite Ban

Former FIFA President Sepp Blatter, who is banned from taking part in any FIFA activities until 2022, plans to attend the World Cup match between Portugal and Morocco on Wednesday, BBC sports correspondent Richard Conway reported Tuesday via his Twitter account.
The Group B game will be played at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium.

“Sepp Blatter, despite currently being banned from football, will attend Portugal v Morocco in Moscow tomorrow, his spokesman tells me. The former FIFA president has an open invite from [Russian President] Vladimir Putin to attend the tournament,” Conway wrote.

Blatter served as FIFA president from 1998 till 2015 but stepped down in June 2015 amid a massive corruption scandal and was subsequently banned by the FIFA Ethics Committee from all the activities of world football’s governing body for eight years. The ban was later reduced to six years.

Russia is currently hosting it’s first-ever FIFA World Cup, with the matches set to be played at 12 stadiums across 11 cities.
