WORLD CUP: Why We Love Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Tall, rangey, technical and powerful, the sight of Ruben Loftus-Cheek in full flight is one to behold and having worked closely with the Chelsea youngster from 2015 onwards, England boss Gareth Southgate knows what he’s getting.

An impressive senior debut against Germany at Wembley in November 2017 saw the south London lad launch himself into contention for the World Cup in Russia, having previously starred for Southgate’s U21s.

His rise through the ranks hasn’t been without its setbacks though, with growing pains restricting his earlier appearances for both club and country before he could really strut his stuff in the Premier League during a loan spell with Crystal Palace in 2017-18.
