Danny Welbeck relaxed ahead of World Cup

England international Danny Welbeck has said that he is relaxed ahead of the Three Lions’ participation at the World Cup in Russia.

Gareth Southgate’s side, who have been based at St George’s Park during a pre-tournament training camp, fly out to Saint Petersburg airport on Tuesday and will stay in Repino for their group stage matches.

Arsenal forward Welbeck has praised the facilities at St George’s Park for offering the ideal preparation ahead of the tournament.

“Being at the home base for England and training here, the facilities are second to none and we’ve been here so many times it is like a home away from home. The weather hasn’t been too bad here, which has helped,” the 27-year-old told the Evening Standard.

“Maybe before, with previous camps, you have to try and acclimatise to different conditions we are going to play in.

“But staying here and training has been good for us. Hopefully it will help us do well at the tournament.”

Welbeck, who was part of England’s squad for the 2014 World Cup squad, has made 39 Three Lions appearances.
