Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois’ father has blamed the English media for all the criticism directed towards his son following an underwhelming season.
Courtois did not have the best of seasons, but he was not the only player to under perform, with the entire squad guilty of being not at the races.
The London club find themselves out of the Champions League next season, and will ply their trade in the Europa League along with Arsenal and Burnley.
But Thierry Courtois, the goalkeeper’s father, lashed out at the English media for what he perceived to be unwarranted criticism of his son.
“In the beginning of Thibaut’s career, I started collecting these statistics,” the Belgian outlet Het Laatste Nieuws, quoted him as saying.
“I fill in my list every week because I like that. And Thibaut goes through my file so he can set goals for himself. ‘Still a clean sheet.’ It motivates him, without becoming an obsession.”
