Are Spain too reliant on Iniesta?

With the World Cup inching ever closer, teams continue to prepare for football’s biggest show piece event. One of the teams heading to Russia and as favourites to win this year’s edition are the 2010 champions Spain. La Roja as their are famously known however failed to win in their friendly match against Switzerland in Villareal.

It was interesting to not that the 2010 champions had been controlling this match comfortably but were punished almost immediately after the withdrawal of Captain and Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta. Shortly after the hour mark, Iniesta was withdrawn and so was spain’s hold and control of the match.

Iniesta was instrumental in the team’s 2010 triumph where he scored the title clinching goal in the final against Netherlands.  Now at 34 and clearly not at his physical peak, are Spain making a mistake by being too reliant on the maestro for midfield dominance?
