Former Everton attacker Tim Cahill believes that ex-Arsenal skipper Mikel Arteta knows the club’s background and he is fit to replace departed Arsene Wenger.

The Northern Londoners are seeking to fill the void left by Wenger who quit the club after 22 years of service and Arteta who served under him between 2011 to 2016 is leading the race to succeed the Frenchman.

Cahill who played together with Arteta at Everton from 2004 to 2011 feels that the Spaniard might be a perfect replacement since he has gain experience having worked with Pep Guardola since quitting arsenal in 2016.

“The best thing for him is he’s out there learning his trade, putting in the hours that count. He’s taking it so seriously and he’s got great and understanding of the game. Who he’s working for and with know, it’s probably one of the strongest setups in the world and probably one of the best managers in the world” Cahill told Bein Sports.

’’When you talk about someone like Mikel coming into a club like Arsenal, who he has already been a part of, knows the background of, he’s not someone that you would not put in the frame. Put experience and all this away… they can build something special with these ex-players who love the club and maybe someone experienced with them,’’ he added.

Arteta captain Arsenal to the 2013-14 FA cup and 2014, 15 Community shield wins. He is currently serving as an assistant coach at Manchester City.
