Former Football Kenya Federation president Sam Nyamweya has lauded the Gor Mahia team after fighting to hold championship side Hull City before falling on penalties over the weekend at the MISC Kasarani.

In a statement, the former football boss also thanked the thousands of football fans who turned up at the venue to witness the action which was a first in recent football history.

His statement….

I take this opportunity to congratulate Gor Mahia for the great show the players put up on Sunday in the historic international friendly game against former English Premier League side Hull City at the Kasarani Stadium.

For the tens of thousands who thronged the stadium to watch the game and the millions who watched on TV across the country will agree with me that Gor Mahia represented Kenyan football well and duly deserve a pat on the back.

It is a clear manifestation that club football in Kenya is coming of age with Gor Mahia taking the lead. For Gor Mahia to hold Hull City is a big statement about Kenyan football. Personally, I have been the leading crusader of community football and what we saw on Sunday has proved my position right. To the Thousands who attended the game, keep it up. To the organizers and sponsors of the game- Sportpesa, you did a fantastic job.
